A Well-Established, Industry Leadership Heritage
Cambar Solutions originated from a strategy by Cameron and Barkley, a leading electrical and industrial components distribution company, intended to gain a competitive advantage through technology innovation. In the late 1970s, their Information Technology department developed a mainframe application to automate the management of Cameron and Barkley’s distribution functions. At IBM’s suggestion, Cameron and Barkley formed Cambar Software in 1981 to fulfill an industry-wide demand for robust, advanced information technology. Cambar Software transformed Cameron and Barkley’s internally developed mainframe technology application into an enterprise software solution ready for the commercial market. This enterprise software solution ultimately became Cambar Software’s market-leading CONTROL software package, with its first installation in 1982. CONTROL pioneered a new category of commercial software products called Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). While becoming the benchmark for order management in the distribution industry, the company introduced its second commercial software solution in 1991. As a platform and database independent solution, this second enterprise software solution was Cambar Software’s Warehouse Management Solution (WMS). WMS soon became the standard for warehouse management in the distribution and manufacturing industries. By 1994, the CONTROL product had been completely re-architected and re-engineered to be platform and database independent and was introduced to the commercial market as Cambar Software’s Order Management Solution (OMS).
Established Growth, Know-How, Wisdom and Vision
While continuing on a respectable growth path, Cambar Software changed ownership in 2002, when it was acquired by a private group of long-term investment partners. Cambar Software grew into Cambar Solutions in recognition of the high value Cambar’s clients placed on its supply chain consulting and technology innovation services. To better reflect its depth in supply chain consulting, the company’s name was officially changed to Cambar Solutions in 2006. Cambar Solutions’ current CEO and CFO are principles in the acquiring limited partnership. The other partners are experienced supply chain executives that have contributed to two rounds of growth funding. The partnership's goal is to continue growing profitably, creating long term and sustainable equity value. As of 2006, all Cambar employees participate in ownership of Cambar Solutions.
Although primarily focused on the distribution and manufacturing industries, Cambar’s client base includes category leaders across almost every industry including high technology, medical supply, pharmaceutical, consumer packaged goods, maintenance and repair, specialty products, food service, and third party logistics. The ironclad loyalty demonstrated by Cambar Solution's high profile clients for over a quarter century is a testament to the customer satisfaction and value created by the Company.
